Obituary: Michael Hendricks fought for gay marriage in Quebec and won. That’s only part of his legacy
A deep sense of "freedom and justice" inspired the longtime Montreal activist.
René LeBoeuf, left, and Michael Hendricks at their home in Montreal on June 11, 2015. They had been together for 30 years when they sued the provincial government for the right to marry. In 2004, a Quebec Court of Appeal ruling allowed same-sex marriages to proceed immediately. They married on April 1, 2004. (Vincenzo D'Alto / Montreal Gazette)
