After an Alberta judge quashed a separatist petition, saying the provincial government had a duty to consult with First Nations and that the petition never should have been issued, Premier Danielle Smith rejected the ruling. Speaking to reporters, Smith said she believes the legal ruling is “incorrect in law” and un-democratic, so the province will be appealing it – May 13, 2026
