The US$160 billion Abu Dhabi Investment Council has picked Lori Hall-Kimm as chief investment officer for its private equity business, adding a 25-year veteran of some of the world’s largest pension investors to its rapidly-expanding team.
Hall-Kimm joins ADIC from the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, according to a statement on Wednesday. She started at the Canadian investor in 2022 and oversaw a period of significant growth at its private equity arm, where net assets climbed to $24.2 billion from roughly $20 billion.
She previously spent six years at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board’s private equity unit, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before that, the executive helped establish the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan’s London office and led its European fund and co-investments over a period of 11 years.
At ADIC, which is increasingly emerging as one of Abu Dhabi’s most aggressive funds, Hall-Kimm will report to Alain Carrier, executive director of private equity, overseeing investing across that division. The hire adds to ADIC’s growing talent pool that includes Ben Samild, the former chief investment officer of Australia’s Future Fund and Edward Winter, who previously worked at Global Infrastructure Partners.
“Lori’s expertise in building and managing high-performing portfolios will play a vital role as we continue to invest in global private markets with a focus on sustainable growth and long-term value creation,” Carrier said in the statement.
The appointment underscores Abu Dhabi’s broader effort to deepen its bench of investment professionals as the emirate’s sovereign institutions deploy capital across global private markets. ADIC, established in 2007, operates as Mubadala Investment Co.’s indirect investment arm and manages more than US$160 billion in assets, with investments across the U.S., Europe, the U.K. and Asia.
ADIC’s private equity portfolio has exposure across buyouts, venture capital, growth equity and co-investments, with more than 500 investments globally. It works alongside marquee names, including Bain Capital Partners, Sequoia Capital and AH Equity Partners.
