Charges pending after motorcyclist clocked driving 170 km/h prior to crash: EPS

PHOTO BY SHAUGHN BUTTS /Postmedia Charges are pending against a motorcyclist after police say the driver was travelling 170 km/h before losing control and crashing into an east Edmonton recreation centre, early Tuesday morning. Around 5 a.m., officers were on proactive patrol and witnessed a motorcycle heading southbound on Wayne Gretzky Drive and 112 Avenue at roughly 170 km/h, said an EPS spokesperson in an email. Police were able to locate the motorcycle, which had lost control and crashed at the entrance of the Bonnie Doon Leisure Centre and Pool. The male motorcyclist was taken to hospital for precautionary measures and no other injuries were reported. Police are still investigating the crash.
