NEW DELHI—India’s finance ministry is considering raising import duties on edible oil to support struggling farmers and reduce imports, two officials familiar with the matter said.
The ministry has convened a meeting of its Economic Advisory Council to deliberate on the proposed hike in duties, according to one of the officials. The council is expected to make recommendations that could be included in the budget for the fiscal year starting April 1, 2024.
