Deer Lake Power opened its fifth floodgate Wednesday in an effort to lower water levels in the Humber River following weeks of heavy rainfall.
The move was made after the provincial government declared a state of emergency on Aug. 19 due to the rising river and its tributaries, which caused flooding across the region.
