Cape Breton Eagles finish first half of main training camp, cuts expected to be made

JEREMY FRASER/CAPE BRETON POST Jeremy Fraser The Cape Breton Eagles main training camp may only be two days old, but decisions are already starting to be made by the club’s hockey operations staff. The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League club held a pair of practices on Tuesday morning, followed by an intrasquad game to conclude the first half of the team’s main training camp schedule. In the intrasquad game, Team Pavelec completed the two-game sweep of Team Batherson with a 6-5 come-from-behind shootout victory at Centre 200 in Sydney. J.T. JEREMY FRASER/CAPE BRETON POST Jeremy Fraser Adam Klaus, C.J. Sawyer, Jacob Hartlin, Aiden McCullough and Owen Burke netted goals for Team Pavelec. The shootout winner was not available. Maxim Schäfer found the back of the net twice, while Gavin Smith, Tanner Hayden and Brayden Reynolds added single markers for Team Batherson. Lucas Beckman and Alexis Noel shared time in net for Team Pavelec. Sam Berthiaume and Jordan Rittenberg were between the pipes for Team Pavelec. Like Monday night, forward Romain Litalien as well as defenceman Will Murphy and Easton Anello were not on the ice for the game. All three are rehabbing from respective injuries. JEREMY FRASER/CAPE BRETON POST Jeremy Fraser The Eagles were expected to make cuts after Tuesday’s intrasquad game, but they were not released publicly on Tuesday evening. Reassignments are expected to be announced publicly on Wednesday. The Valley Wildcats of the Maritime Junior Hockey League are reporting on social media that forward Étienne Dupéré has been reassigned from Eagles camp. The 19-year-old was acquired in a deal with the Victoriaville Tigres last month for a ninth-round pick in 2028. Cape Breton did not announce the release at press time.
