PHOTO BY SUPPLIED Article content Funds totaling almost half a million dollars that will connect scholars, diplomats, community leaders and students at Cape Breton University have been granted to the university and three other international education and community hubs by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Article content The council is a Canadian federal research funding agency that promotes and supports research and research training in the humanities and social sciences. Article content Article content Article content The university announced Monday that an international collaborative network, anchored at CBU, has been awarded a $499,993 Insight Grant from the (SSHRC). Article content The five-year initiative, titled Our Research Futures: Indigenous Pathways for Research in Higher Education, is spearheaded by principal investigator Dr. Marcia Ostashewski, founding director of the Centre for Sound Communities and professor of Ethnomusicology at CBU, alongside Unama’ki College dean Laurianne Sylvester and Starr Paul of Eskasoni, an assistant professor of Mi’kmaq studies.
