PHOTO BY CONTRIBUTED Article content NEW GLASGOW – Poutine Fest will be held across New Glasgow from Sept. 6-12 in support of National Suicide Prevention Week. Article content Nine restaurants from across New Glasgow will be participating in this year’s Poutine Fest. The lineup was announced on Facebook on Aug. 17. Article content Article content A toonie from every poutine sold that week will be donated to the Recovery Support Centre at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, to aid its mental health and addiction services. Cash donations will also be accepted. Article content Article content “Last year went well, and we’re only looking to improve that this year,” said Poutine Fest organizer Megan Hartling. Article content “I unfortunately lost my cousin to suicide in 2019, and I wanted to find a way to be able to help families not have to go through what mine did,” Hartling said. “I work in the restaurant industry as a server and bartender, and I noticed that poutine was a popular food that many places sell. It’s a great comfort food, so it felt appropriate for this kind of event. This is a great chance to bring business into your restaurant and get free promos out of it, all while raising money for our community.” Article content Hartling started Poutine Fest last year, raising $3,250 between sales and cash donations for the Recovery Support Centre.
