          Analysts’ forecast returns, recommendations and yields for all stocks in the S&P/TSX Composite Index JENNIFER DOWTY PUBLISHED YESTERDAY COMMENTS SHARE SAVE FOR LATER In August, the S&P/TSX Composite Index advanced 2.96 per cent, ending the month near a record high. However, strength was concentrated with just three sectors posting positive price returns. Sector leaders were materials, technology and communication services with gains of 25.65 per cent, 12.85 per cent and 3.89 per cent, respectively. Precious metals stocks rallied sharply, while technology and communication services stocks rebounded. Shopify Inc. (SHOP-T +0.97% increase ) saw its share price soar 24.42 per cent. Shares of Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI-B-T +0.34% increase ) and BCE Inc. (BCE-T -0.49% decrease ) jumped 7.73 per cent and 7.46 per cent, respectively. Year-to-date, the TSX Index is up 14.38 per cent with positive price returns in eight of the 11 sectors. There are three sectors with double-digit returns. Energy, materials and financials have gains of 29.91 per cent, 18.69 per cent and 18.53 per cent, respectively. Despite the gains in August, communication services and technology remain the worst-performing sectors year-to-date with losses of 7.13 per cent and 6.12 per cent, respectively. The top 10 performers in the S&P/TSX Composite Index in August were from a single sector - materials: Aris Mining Corp. (ARIS-T), up 48 per cent Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD-T), up 47 per cent Novagold Resources Inc. (NG-T), up 46 per cent SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM-T), up 45 per cent B2Gold Corp. (BTO-T), up 45 per cent IAMGOLD Corp. (IMG-T), up 43 per cent Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX-T), up 43 per cent Fortuna Mining Corp. (FVI-T), up 42 per cent Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR-T), up 41 per cent Discovery Mining Ltd. (DSV-T), up 41 per cent. Stocks with material positive revisions to their average target prices over the past month include: Air Canada (AC-T), increased 36 per cent to $36.14 from $26.67 Russel Metals Inc. (RUS-T), increased 26 per cent to $83.86 from $66.57 Bird Construction Inc. (BDT-T), increased 19 per cent to $84.63 from $71.13 Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS-T), increased 17 per cent to $134.91 from $114.91. As of Aug. 31, the S&P/TSX Composite Index was trading at a price-to-earnings multiple of 17.4 times the 2026 consensus earnings estimate, up from a multiple of 16.9 times last month, according to Bloomberg.
