The locally-produced and filmed work features many local people and is a fictional story loosely based on Donald Marshall Jr,'s life. Marshall, a young Mi'kmaq man, was unjustly convicted of a murder he didn't commit in 1971 and spent 11 years in prison. Gould is a nephew of Marshall and wrote the film based on a road trip he took as a teenager with his uncle. The film is being premiered at the Atlantic Film Festival on September 19. Article content Article content A film that had its beginnings 10 years ago in Gould’s heart and mind will have its premiere performance at the Atlantic International Film Festival on Sept. 19 in Halifax.  Article content Article content Tickets are now on sale for Jeffrey’s Turn, a coming-of-age story based on a good dose of reality that will be of interest to Cape Bretoners.  Article content Gould explains the movie with the following synopsis: “Seventeen-year-old J.R. Sylliboy lives on the Black Bear First Nations with his widowed, environmentalist mother, Anna. He is summoned upon by the brother of his late father, his recently-released-from-prison uncle who has been incarcerated in the state of Maine as a result of an altercation with some locals. Once united, the pair venture on a summer road trip which takes them on an unforgettable journey. Misfortune, corruption, deception and violence seem to greet them at every turn, until they finally make their way … to Jeffrey’s Turn.”  Article content Gould draws on his own life for some of the experiences portrayed in the film.
