Transitional housing project in Regina receives $4.5M in federal funding - CTV News

The federal government and Métis Nation-Saskatchewan announced a new transitional housing project in Regina, which will provide a space for Indigenous women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals fleeing domestic violence. The project was made possible through $4.5 million in funding through the federal Indigenous Shelter and Transitional Housing Initiative. The space will include 16 units, according to a Wednesday news release from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Mandy Gull-Masty, federal minister of Indigenous Services, said the project is a meaningful step forward for Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) and for Regina. The announcement comes as the Government of Canada launches Build Canada Homes, an initiative that helps increase affordable homes and housing projects in communities across Canada. “Communities across Saskatchewan know their needs best. We have been proud to partner with MN-S to build these new transitional homes for members of the community so they can have culturally appropriate housing close to family, community, and supports,” Gregor Robertson, federal minister of housing and infrastructure said. Including the $4.5 million provided by the Indigenous Shelter and Transitional Housing Initiative, Regina’s project receives ongoing operating funding from the federal government through Indigenous Services Canada and $432,000 from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.
