Article content The Pictou West MLA, who has been Nova Scotia’s energy minister since May 27, has faced scrutiny since music he recorded under the name Meadowville came to light, containing misogynistic language and references to drug use. Article content Article content In mid-August, MacLeod apologized for the lyrics he wrote and recorded more than a decade ago. On Sept. 2, MacLeod resigned from cabinet and released a statement on Facebook. Article content Article content “The past couple of weeks have had a significant impact on me, as I’ve met with women’s groups and individuals who have taken the time to share their experiences and perspectives,” he said. Article content “Although I am very sorry for the actions that led me here, I am appreciative of the learning that has come from this experience. I am grateful to the groups who have shared their time with me, and humbled by the folks who have spoken so openly to me about their personal experiences. Article content “I know I need to widen my lens and improve my perspective to better understand these issues and serve my constituents. I have taken part in training, spent time reading relevant literature, and am committed to continuing to learn and do better.” Article content Adsum for Woman and Children, a Halifax organization providing emergency housing for victims of domestic violence, said in an August statement there is no excuse for the songs’ content.
