Article content The wind farm is just one part of what the Kruger subsidiary has dubbed Project Tuckamore, a long-term investment project for the western Newfoundland mill that includes four interconnected components. Article content Article content The other parts include modernizing forestry operations, upgrading the mill, and improving the Deer Lake Power facility that supplies most of the paper mill’s electricity. Article content What is the wind farm plan? Article content The wind farm first must pass Newfoundland and Labrador’s environmental assessment process. In the document registered with the Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change on Tuesday, Sept. 1, the company outlined its plan for the 155‑megawatt wind farm. Article content The farm will consist of 22 wind turbines to be installed south of Corner Brook at the end of Lady Slipper Road, which accesses an area used for industrial wood harvesting since the early days of the 101-year-old mill. Article content According to a map included in the registration document, the turbines will be located on the north shore of the southern end of Grand Lake, west of the southern tip of Glover Island.
