Article content On Aug. 30, dozens of residents gathered at the town hall for a peaceful protest against the current town council. People said they are unhappy with the way Mayor Alec Dove and the rest of the council have been treating residents, with some even calling for the resignations of almost the entire council. Article content Article content Article content “Our voices matter, and we want to see change,” said protest organizer Cheri MacInnis. Article content “I’ve heard from a lot of Trenton residents who are fed up with our current leadership. They don’t feel like they’re being heard and that they are being disrespected. Issues are being ignored or pushed to the side, so a lot of people now are asking that the current leadership (to) step aside and resign. Article content “With two more years of this to come, we can’t imagine having to put up with this during that time. We’ve elected these people into office to represent us, and to be ignored or completely disrespected is just not OK.” Article content Municipal elections in Nova Scotia are held every four years. The next election will take place in October 2028. Article content Many of the people who attended the protest said they feel disrespected by council after several issues have been brought forward during meetings and seemingly brushed aside.
