Voice of the Sea: Special screening in Pubnico gets rave reviews

A question and answer session was held following a special screening of The Voice of the Sea recently in Tusket. Two special screenings of the La Voix de La Mer (The Voice of the Sea) were held on Aug. 28 and 29 at the Conseil acadien de Par-en-Bas (CAPEB) Père-Maurice-LeBlanc Hall in Tusket. The film was well received, said Pubnico’s Yvette d’Entremont, who was director, screenwriter, co-producer, and an actress in The Voice of the Sea. “It was fantastic. The comments were heartwarming. People were coming out having cried the whole way through because the drone shots and B-roll shots are simply amazing, breathtaking. They showcase the region like it’s never been showcased before,” she said. “It showcases the Pubnico region, the boats going out on dumping day. We had some fishermen tell us we’ve never seen ourselves – the boats going out from that angle because we’ve always been in the boats, so to see this military-like procession with all the lights is spectacular; something special to see.” Two years in the making, The Voice of the Sea is a short fictional film based on real life. It is based on a musical of the same name that was initially a song d’Entremont wrote for a concert in Pubnico in the 1990s when she was a teacher. In 2013, d’Entremont turned the song into a musical, which has been staged twice in France. It was also presented during the 2024 World Acadian Congress in southwestern Nova Scotia. He had received some funding from Heritage Canada through the CAPEB to make a movie, but he needed a script.
