New general manager hired for Rath Eastlink Community Centre

PHOTO BY AIDAN RAWDING /Truro News TRURO – Mark Peck is the new general manager of the Rath Eastlink Community Centre (RECC). He had worked with the province for 38 years. It included serving as the associate deputy minister of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing. In the latter role, Peck was the interim CEO for Housing Nova Scotia twice. He also worked as the chief executive officer for the Joint Regional Transportation Agency. “Developing and maintaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders has been an essential component of my various roles,” Peck said in a news release on Sept. 4. “These stakeholders have included other levels of government, the business community, the non-profit sector and the public throughout Nova Scotia and across Canada.” Peck is a member of the 4-H Nova Scotia board of directors and previously spent about 12 years on the Provincial Government Employees Credit Union board. He holds a master of public administration from Dalhousie University. He has been hired for a one-year term. “We’re in a restructuring stage out there right now,” said Johnson. “We just have to put the train back on the tracks with who we have, and we do have to do some hires, and that’s entirely up to him, where we go from here.” Johnson continued, “We felt with his experience and his resumé that he was certainly the best candidate for the position.” The RECC is jointly owned by the Town of Truro and the Municipality of Colchester. In October, the Municipality of Colchester announced it would be terminating the operating agreement for the RECC. The announcement cited concerns that contracts were signed by the management of the RECC board without municipal approval. This resulted in governance changes at the RECC. As of January, the RECC board is now made up of six municipal councillors. It closed the Rustic Table and cancelled the 2026 Nova Scotia Stampede.
