Shelburne's Frenchys to close Sept. 30

PHOTO BY KATHY JOHNSON /Tri-County Vanguard After 20 years selling second-hand clothing in Shelburne, Guy’s Frenchys is closing the doors. “Unfortunately, the rumours are true, we’ve had to make the hard decision to close this location,” Guy’s Frenchys said in a social media post on Sept. 3. “We realize this is a shock to our many valued customers in the Shelburne area. We hope everyone understands that this isn’t a decision we’ve made lightly, but it is the best decision for us at this time.” No one from the company was available for further comment. The building that houses the Frenchys’ outlet at 72 King St. is already on the real estate market with a listed price of $499,000. “Prime commercial building with endless possibilities,” the real estate listing reads. “This impressive commercial building offers an excellent opportunity for entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses looking for an adaptable (5,400-square-foot) building in one of the highest-traffic locations in Shelburne.” Guy’s Frenchys announced Sept. 3 it has made the “hard decision” to close the Shelburne location as of Sept. 30. Founded in 1972 in Digby by the late Edwin (Frenchy) Theriault, the retail thrift chain has 13 outlets including Shelburne in Nova Scotia and five in New Brunswick.
