PHOTO BY STEVE BRUCE Article content A Halifax massage therapist who faces eight counts of sexual assault has re-elected to be tried in Nova Scotia Supreme Court by a judge alone. Article content The charges against Sergii Kozub, 44, were laid in 2025 and involve eight female patients. The offences were allegedly committed between November 2023 and December 2024. Article content Article content Kozub pleaded not guilty to all the charges in Halifax provincial court and was scheduled to stand trial at the Spring Garden Road courthouse over 10 days in late February and early March 2027. Article content Article content But during an Aug. 25 appearance in provincial court, defence lawyer Patrick MacEwen announced his client was re-electing to have his case heard in Supreme Court. Article content MacEwen appeared in Supreme Court in Halifax on Thursday for Kozub’s arraignment and entered not-guilty pleas on his behalf. Article content The case will be back in court Oct. 22 to set trial dates. Constance MacIsaac and Chris Cheverie are the Crown attorneys on the file. Article content Kozub was initially arrested in March 2025 and charged with sexually assaulting one woman Dec. 9, 2024, during an appointment at Massage Addict, a clinic on Lacewood Drive in Halifax. Article content Halifax Regional Police announced five more charges had been laid against Kozub in April 2025 and two additional charges in September 2025. Article content Kozub is free on undertakings to police with conditions. He had to surrender his passport and must remain in Nova Scotia, notify police of any change in his address or employment, have no contact with the complainants, and not attend their residences or workplaces.
