Article content Daniel Charles MacDonald, 50, was supposed to have a preliminary inquiry in Antigonish provincial court Monday on a charge of making written child sexual abuse and exploitation material but waived his right to the hearing. Article content Article content Article content MacDonald, who is represented by lawyer Adam Rodgers, also faces allegations of accessing and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, formerly known as child pornography. Article content MacDonald has elected to be tried by a Supreme Court judge alone on all three charges. He will make his first appearance in Supreme Court in Antigonish on Oct. 6. Article content Social media application notified police Article content MacDonald was arrested Aug. 20, 2025, when RCMP executed a search warrant at his residence on Martin Street and seized electronic evidence. Article content Police were directed to the home after a social media application notified law enforcement that child pornography had been transmitted through its service. Article content MacDonald was released on an undertaking to police with conditions and was arraigned in provincial court on Nov. 26, 2025. Article content The undertaking prohibits MacDonald from communicating with anyone younger than 18 unless it’s under the direct supervision of an adult and the young person’s parent or guardian is aware of his charges, and from attending parks, playgrounds, daycares, schools, swimming pools and other places where children are likely to be present.
