PHOTO BY NORTH BREWING COMPANY Article content A Halifax man has been charged with breaking and entering in connection with recent break-ins at several downtown Dartmouth businesses. Article content Since Aug. 26, nine establishments have reported incidents of break-in and theft, with many resulting in glass doors being smashed. Article content Article content One man was arrested Sunday night in relation to the incidents. Mark Graves, 43, had been scheduled to appear in court Monday to face three charges of breaking and entering, one charge of mischief, and three charges of breach of a probation order. Article content Article content In a news release, the Halifax Regional Police said the investigations are ongoing and “additional charges are anticipated.” Article content Tim Rissesco, CEO of the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission, said he hopes the police are able to “nip it in the bud” and increased police presence in the area could prevent future break-ins. Article content “The break-ins have a big impact,” said Rissesco. Article content “Pretty much all the businesses in downtown Dartmouth are independently owned, so the storefronts, the businesses become an extension of the owner and so the costs are both in the sense of personal safety, you know, a part of you has been violated, and then the costs of replacing what’s been taken.
