PHOTO BY UNITED GULF Article content Halifax turned down a pitch from a major developer to build what they’re calling a cleaner, more innovative cabin design on the Bedford Highway. Article content That’s why United Gulf, the developer behind the Skye Halifax towers in downtown Halifax and other projects, is taking the matter to the Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board later this month for a ruling. Article content Article content “Simply put – we are very much looking to create what will be an attractive modern addition to the Bedford community and to do so in an innovative as well as responsible way that confers benefit to the community even during the course of construction with the intended construction approach,” said Donn Fraser with GNF Commercial Management Ltd., part of the United Gulf group of companies, in an email. Article content Article content They want to build 66 cabins in two blocks, totalling 2,600 square feet, with 69 parking spots at 1232 Bedford Highway. There’s a commercial building there now, and they say they don’t plan to demolish it but to convert it into offices, supply space and a maintenance area to support the rental of the cabin accommodations that would be built beside it.
