Article content Daniel Bzdel, 46, and his daughter Aura were headed north on Highway 9 on Jan. 5 2020 when Augustine Henry — who was driving 90 km/h headed east on Highway 564 — crashed his rental SUV into Bzdel’s Ford Focus at roughly 5:30 p.m. Bzdel died as a result of the collision and Aura suffered a traumatic brain injury, which still affects her fine motor skills on her right side. He was sentenced to 12-months in jail for dangerous driving causing bodily harm, which is to be served at the same time as the 20-month jail sentence. Article content Court of King’s Bench Justice Janice Ashcroft, reading her sentencing decision aloud in a Calgary courtroom on Sept. 15, outlined her reasoning behind the sentence, citing the severity of bodily harm and prolonged inattentiveness of the driver as aggravating factors.
