Daily roundup of research and analysis from The Globe and Mail’s market strategist Scott Barlow TRIPLE MOMENTUM STOCKS BoA Securities quant strategist Nigel Tupper screens for the most promising global stocks based on triple momentum - rising earnings, stock prices and news flow, “After a remarkable run, investors seem to be questioning AI leadership amid rising investment, uncertain monetisation, and growing safety concerns. However, our Triple Momentum rankings for AI-related global themes show no deterioration, with AI Compute, Photonics, and Data Centers remaining the top-ranked themes. At the same time, several other themes are re-emerging. AI adoption is creating additional security requirements which supports the structural case for Cybersecurity. Recent better-than-expected reported earnings for SaaS companies suggest AI-disruption concerns may have been overblown. In the last month, Gold was the best performing global theme as investors focus on diversifying portfolio exposures. “Top-ranked stocks within each theme” “Among the Most Important Stocks within each theme, the name that screens highest on Triple Momentum within AI Compute is TSMC, Photonics is Zhongji Innolight-A, Data Centers is Seagate Tech, Robotics is Siemens, Grid Modernization is Eaton, Cybersecurity is Rubrik, SaaS is Snowflake, and within Gold is Zijin Mining-H” LOONIE TO WEAKEN Citi currency strategist Daniel Tobin instigated a trade based on a bullish loonie forecast that was incorrect, “We have been stopped out of our short USDCAD at 1.3990 stop (2:58 p.m.). We originally entered this trade on September 2nd, expecting the Fed would not ‘outhawk’ market pricing, while the BoC was sounding more hawkish. The Fed view was wrong, and today’s meeting saw increasing market expectations for further hikes, pushing USD higher (and USDCAD through our stop)” Scotiabank strategist Hugo Ste-Marie adds, “As expected, the Fed raised its target rate by 25bps yesterday.
