THE TELEGRAM/FILE PHOTO Article content Corner Brook Regional High went into lockdown early in the afternoon on Friday, Sept. 18, in response to a report of online threats. Article content In an email to The Telegram, the RNC said it responded to the school shortly before 1:30 p.m. and supported the lockdown procedure. Article content Article content Additional responding officers were able to quickly locate a person of interest in relation to the threats in another area of the city. Article content Article content Trevor Finlay, the school’s principal, advised parents and guardians of the incident in an email sent just before 3 p.m. Article content Finlay said the school entered lockdown at 1:25 p.m. on the advice of the RNC. The school had been following a secure school protocol for about 10 minutes before the lockdown started. Article content “These actions were taken following reports of an individual who was potentially armed, rumoured to be coming to the school whose whereabouts were unknown,” said Finlay. Article content Finlay said students and staff were safe and secure within the building. Article content The lockdown was lifted at approximately 2 p.m. Article content The RNC says the investigation is ongoing and that at this time there appears to have been no direct threat made, and the individual located was not in possession of a weapon. Article content The RNC did not say if the individual had been arrested or if charges were pending. Article content As officers continue to investigate, they say there is no threat to public safety. Article content In his email, Finlay said that if parents or guardians felt their student needed support following the incident, they can reach out to a member of the administration or guidance team.
