Article content In Sydney, those who took part in the early afternoon had their choice of running or walking the five-kilometre route from the Victoria Park Armouries in the north end, along George and Ferry streets, through Open Hearth Park toward Prince Street, then retracing their steps back along the same route toward the armouries. Article content Article content Article content In New Waterford, participants could walk, jog, run or bike around the Francis MacKinnon Track for a two-hour period at their own leisure. Article content And in Glace Bay, people wanting to honour Terry Fox could do so by walking or running along the Renwick Brook track, a 1.3-km trek, that runs parallel to both Brookside and Catherine streets. Article content Each event is considered non-competitive and was open to all: walkers, runners, rollers and cyclists. Registration was free but donations were recommended. Article content According to the Terry Fox Run website, as of Monday, funds raised from the Sydney event amounted to $3,525 (or 60 per cent of its targeted $5,900 goal). The New Waterford run to date raised $580 (or 83 per cent of its targeted $700 goal), while the Glace Bay event to date raised $775 (or 19 per cent of its targeted $4,000 goal). This year’s event fundraised $9,625 as of Monday, according to the Terry Fox Run website. The event is open to participants to either run, walk, cycling or use of rollerblades.
