PHOTO BY STEVE BRUCE Article content One of two men arrested last week after an incident of intimate partner violence in Beechville was not ready to seek bail Tuesday. Article content Gurwinder Singh, 32, of Beechville appeared in Halifax bail court via a video link from the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth. Article content Article content Singh is charged with seven offences in connection with a Sept. 14 incident, including attempted murder. Article content Article content He’s also accused of assault causing bodily harm, assault by choking, uttering threats, forcible confinement, overcoming resistance by choking, and property mischief. Article content In addition, Singh faces a charge of common assault from June 2025. Article content Defence lawyer Diliwar Mangat was in court for Singh on Tuesday, and a Punjabi interpreter was on hand to translate the proceedings for him. Article content “The defence is working on a bail plan to be presented in court,” Mangat told Judge Marc Chisholm. “We’re requesting an adjournment until Oct. 1.” Article content The judge granted the adjournment and reminded Singh that he is banned from communicating with the female complainant while he’s on remand. Article content Prosecutor Mike Coady said the Crown remains opposed to the accused’s release. Article content Another man charged Article content Varyam Singh, 24, also of Beechville, is the other man charged in the case. He faces the same seven charges from the Sept. 14 incident, as well as one count of violence against an intimate partner. Article content Article content The younger Singh was arraigned on the charges Sept. 16 in bail court and consented to remain in custody.
