Simona Rosenfield/Cabin Radio Share The hamlet of Enterprise will swear in a new mayor and council on Friday, after the previous mayor and a councillor resigned in July. John Leskiw III, Lawrence (Lorne) Poitras, Darren Sopel and Charlie Sutherland have been elected to sit on the hamlet’s council, municipal administrator Bobby Bourque confirmed to Cabin Radio. John Leskiw II was acclaimed as mayor. A fifth candidate, Michael Kimble, did not receive enough votes to earn a council seat. The swearing in ceremony for Enterprise’s new leadership will take place at noon on Friday at the hamlet office. It represents the next chapter in what has been a tumultuous few years for the community’s governance. Advertisement. Advertisement. Throughout 2024, the hamlet’s mayor, senior administrative officer and four councillors quit. In May of 2025, the territorial government placed the community under administration over “governance, financial, and operational challenges,” the GNWT said at the time. In the fall of 2025, the territorial government announced the community would be transitioning back to local governance after it made significant progress to resolve issues. Barbara Hart, Enterprise’s previous mayor, and three councillors were acclaimed to their roles in November 2025. Most recently, the hamlet was placed under administration in July 2026 after Hart and councillor Evellyn Coleman resigned from their roles. Bourque said the community’s administration period and his appointment as municipal administrator end on Friday as Enterprise’s council will now have quorum for meetings.
