NDP Leader David Eby returns to power in this election, he will be without his most trusted lieutenant after Health Minister Ravi Kahlon announced he would not be running in the snap election called Tuesday. Article content “Ravi Kahlon, remarkable minister, has, through driving jobs and opportunity, helped us to be the province that is leading the country in major projects at the major projects office of the federal government,” Eby said Thursday. (He’s) making a decision, an understandable decision to be with his family, support his family in this time. Hard decision. I’ve known for a while that Ravi wouldn’t be running again. Article content Also bowing out are Jobs Minister Brenda Bailey, Emergency Management Minister Kelly Greene and Agriculture Minister Lana Popham, in what could either be viewed as a sign of renewal within the NDP or an indictment of Eby’s record four years after taking over from John Horgan. Article content For Bailey, the reason is believed to be health, as she had surgery for an early-stage, treatable cancer on Aug. 26 that was diagnosed over the summer and led to her stepping down from the Finance portfolio. But some believe she got tired of a lack of autonomy from Eby’s office while in Finance.
