Northwest Territories enter the federation

The 1870 transfer brought Rupert’s Land and the North-Western Territory into Canada; Manitoba’s creation belongs to the related Red River record.

Not publication-ready. The transfer of colonial claims did not imply Indigenous consent or erase Indigenous title. The 1870 territory differed greatly from the present Northwest Territories.
