Lars Hagberg/Office of the Prime Minister Share Cabin Radio is moving to hire its first journalist based outside the Northwest Territories: an Ottawa correspondent dedicated to covering national politics for a northern audience. Funded by the Metcalf Foundation for three years, hiring for the position began this week. You can read the job ad here. “At a time of political polarization, news bans on social media and widespread disinformation, we need northerners to connect with national politics,” that advertisement states, “especially as Ottawa turns its focus to the North on issues like Arctic sovereignty, the conservation economy and major projects, and as questions are raised about the country’s commitment to addressing the impacts and causes of climate change.” The position’s scope will include the House of Commons, the Senate, the work of federal political parties, affairs of national Indigenous organizations and the dealings of northern politicians at the national level.
