Article content The change is part of Ontario’s expansion of 110 km/h speed limits across the provincial highway network. Article content Article content The new limit will apply to Highway 417 from the Highway 416/417 interchange west on Highway 7, as well as from Leitrim Road east to Highway 174. Article content Article content It will also apply to Highway 416 from Fallowfield Road to just south of the Highway 416/417 interchange. Article content The changes taking effect Friday are the latest in a phased rollout that began in June, with another round scheduled for Aug. 31. Article content The province said most of Ontario’s freeway network was originally designed to safely accommodate a posted speed limit of 110 km/h. The province added that the broader expansion could shave nearly half an hour off a trip between Toronto and Ottawa.
