Jim Wells/Postmedia Article content A parliamentary petition aimed at expanding criteria for emergency alert systems to better suit missing persons with autism gathered more than 2,000 signatures in less than 24 hours, according to its Alberta-based sponsor. Article content The petition — e-7703 — went live Monday and will gather signatures across Canada until Dec. 22. Article content Article content It calls on the federal government to develop shared national standards for a vulnerable missing persons alert framework, to better protect people with autism, non-verbal individuals and people with intellectual or developmental disabilities who go missing. Article content Article content The framework would include geo-targeted alerts based on the missing person’s likely location, the use of voluntary location-finding technology, and clear authority and appropriate tools for law enforcement to act quickly, according to the petition.
