This Redblacks season has been miserable, and nobody is more frustrated than the two of us, who have funded this football team for 12 years. We own that, and we are fixing it. Article content The rest of his column doesn’t hold up whatsoever. Article content Article content The case for rebuilding Lansdowne was never built on one team’s win-loss record. When the Lansdowne 2.0 process began, three teams called TD Place home. Last year, six did. The Ottawa Charge grew from an idea into a contender at Lansdowne before moving on, as their representative predicted when appearing before city council last year. And we’re proud of the part OSEG played in their growth. Simply put, without the arena at TD Place, the Charge would never have come to Ottawa. That is the value of Lansdowne: It brings together sport, entertainment, business and community in a way few places in Ottawa can. Its value extends well beyond a single sports franchise or what happens on any given playing surface. Article content Nor is the city rebuilding Lansdowne just because of the Redblacks. They are rebuilding because the city owns an arena and stadium that had reached the end of their useful lives. Article content The Redblacks are not going anywhere. The CFL is more than a century old, and it has outlasted a great many people who were certain about its demise. After the recent announcement of its new broadcast deal, the future of the league looks more promising than ever.
