Article content Mainroad Contracting said the tunnel’s northbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Saturday. Article content Article content Then the southbound lanes will shut from 9 p.m. on Saturday until 6 a.m. on Sunday. Article content Late-night and early morning commuters are advised to use the Alex Fraser Bridge as an alternative. Article content The last significant update from the province on the project was in July, when the Canadian government committed $3 billion in capital costs for the Fraser River tunnel project. Article content It carries an updated budget of $8.5 billion for a toll-free, eight lane tunnel, with the B.C. government picking up the balance. Article content Cost projections have more than doubled over years of delays since the incoming NDP government cancelled the Liberals’ fledgling 10-lane bridge proposal in 2017.
