Article content A 19-year-old was out with friends in the 900-block of Granville Street at around 3:20 a.m. on Aug. 8 when they were approached by two men. A chain was snatched from around the victim’s neck and he was slashed, leaving him with a wound from the tip of his nose, under his eye and up to his eyebrow. Article content Article content Early last week, VPD detectives arrested 29-year-old Garret William Thomas in the Downtown Eastside and executed a search warrant at his home. Thomas is charged with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated assault. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing. Article content Paul John Martin of Surrey was found guilty of second-degree murder of 56-year-old Robb Memory, a conviction that carries an automatic life sentence. He will appear in court in New Westminster on Thursday to hear the terms of his parole eligibility to be determined by Justice Barbara Norell.
