Article content It’s a major callout for B.C.-born-and-raised Chani Nicholas, who wasn’t even sure if she would head down this particular career path in the first place. Article content Article content Born and raised in Nelson (Nicholas moved to Los Angeles in 2005 and now splits her time between L.A. and New York, travelling back to her hometown once a year), Nicholas was first introduced to astrology through a family encounter as a child. Article content Article content “When I was 12 years old, my dad entered his third marriage, and his new wife’s mom was a Reiki master,” Nicholas recalls. “She sent us all for an astrology reading because it was a new mixed family. Article content That astrologer called out uniquely personal details about each person during the session that were way too precise to have been a product of guess-work. Article content “The woman started talking about all of us and how different we were and why we were different, and it just made sense to me,” Nicholas says. “It really, really deeply spoke to me. It was like someone was speaking in a language that I knew, but I hadn’t heard yet.” Article content That encounter was followed by a book on astrology, bought for Nicholas by her father, which she poured over for in depth. And she has been “obsessed” with astrology — which is defined as the divination of the influence of stars and planets on humans and the world — ever since.
