(Photo courtesy of Braelynn Aliyuk/Kivalliq Trade Show Society) By Daron Letts Approximately 5,000 students at 22 schools across the Kivalliq and Kitikmeot regions will continue to have access to free breakfasts through 2031, thanks to $5 million from Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. The breakfast program, dubbed the Inunnguiniq Project, is administered by Breakfast Club of Canada, a Quebec-based charity that leads initiatives to address food security across the country. “We’ve seen how this program is important for students, for families, and for communities,” said Marc-Olivier Vachon, general manager of Agnico Eagle’s Meliadine mine, Wednesday evening during his keynote speech at the Kivalliq Trade Show gala. Agnico Eagle announced the first round of $2.5 million in funding for the program at the same trade show event in 2023.
