Police make record $1M+ cash seizure in northeast Calgary drug raid

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams seize drugs and cash worth more than $2 million combined from a Skyview residence. Postmedia file Police in Calgary seized more than $1.2 million in drugs and more than a million dollars in suspected drug money following a search of a home in the northeast Skyview neighbourhood. The cash seizure is believed to be the largest amount of cash seized in a single instance by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams, also known as ALERT, the agency said in a news release issued Wednesday morning. ALERT Calgary’s organized crime team searched the northeast Calgary residence on July 30. The search came after an ALERT Lethbridge investigation in May resulted in the interception of nearly four kilograms of cocaine, which was later tied to a Calgary-based supplier, ALERT said. The drugs seized included 3,091 grams of suspected fentanyl, 6,881 grams of suspected MDMA, 2,175 grams of methamphetamine and 481 grams of cocaine. Investigators are still in the process of counting and analyzing the funds, ALERT said. Police also searched two other homes — located in Harvest Hills and Rocky Ridge — along with two vehicles. Two people are facing charges in relation to the search and seizures. Kerry Lu, 36, was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime and possession of a prohibited weapon. Donald Ng, 51, was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime and possession of a prohibited weapon. More to come.
