Article content Police say a woman began receiving demands for money via WhatsApp text message and voice messages on March 25. The messages contained repeated and explicit threats of violence. Article content Article content “In the messages, the suspects used detailed knowledge of the victim’s personal and business affairs, including her full name, address, business information and information about her family members,” the Calgary Police Service said in a news release issued Friday. Article content Article content Around 12 hours after the initiatial demand for money, an unknown suspect fired a gun at the victim’s residence before fleeing in a vehicle, police said. Article content Investigators identified a suspect vehicle and several possible suspects after collecting evidence that included CCTV footage from the area. Article content On July 29, officers arrested a 17-year-old male for allegedly facilitating the communication between the victim and those making threats. Article content The youth was charged with one count of extortion and has since been released from custody, police said. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Article content As the police investigation continued, investigators arrested a woman on Sept. 8 who allegedly provided personal information about the victim that enabled suspects to identify, locate and intimidate the victim and her family.
