Article content Officials from the Tsuut’ina Nation, Taza Development Corp. and Walmart celebrated the start of construction on the future big-box store Thursday morning. Article content Article content The Walmart, which is slated to open in roughly one year, will be located on Tsuut’ina territory on the south side of Glenmore Trail, across from the Westhills shopping centre. Article content Article content The development is part of a five-year, $6.5-billion investment in Walmart’s Canadian store and supply chain footprint, said Ed Wirun, market manager for Walmart Canada. Article content The future store will encompass 140,000 square feet and will offer a full assortment of GM products, as well as a grocery with produce, a bakery and deli, according to Wirun. The Walmart will eventually hire roughly 100 employees. Article content “This has been a couple years in the working so far, and we’re really excited, because in the fall of 2027 we should be able to open up the doors to the customers,” he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony.
