Article content They are throwbacks to honour the 2004 run to the Stanley Cup Final — a time of celebration that sent Mikael Backlund himself into throwback mode when talking about the alternate silks for the campaign ahead. Article content Article content The Flames captain of today fondly remembers slipping on one of those jerseys when he was drafted by the NHL franchise in the summer of 2007. Article content The club says it will be worn four times at the Saddledome, once against each opponent the Flames defeated — or met — during the memorable 2004 playoff journey: against the Canucks, versus the Detroit Red Wings, to play the San Jose Sharks and to challenge the Tampa Bay Lightning. The first retro night comes Oct. 24 against the Red Wings. For Calgary fans, the sweater recalls the Red Mile, packed streets and a team that came within one victory of the Stanley Cup.
