Article content Court of King’s Bench Justice Christopher Simard, reading his sentencing decision aloud in a Calgary courtroom on Sept. 10, outlined his reasoning behind the sentence, taking into consideration mitigating factors such as Jimenez Varela’s “genuine remorse” and “advanced intoxication.” Article content “(It) was relatively spontaneous, but inherently dangerous,” Simard said about the crime. “He would’ve inferred his friend was injured . . .
