Article content It may not be the full-service hospital Airdrie residents have been seeking for years, but the fast-growing city just north of Calgary will be receiving a health-care centre focused on surgeries, urgent care and maternity. Article content On Monday, Premier Danielle Smith and other dignitaries announced the centre, the first phase of which will comprise 300,000 square feet and open in 2031. Article content “The fact is, parents shouldn’t face a highway commute in the middle of the night when a child needs medical attention; parents shouldn’t have to leave Airdrie for access urgent care; and expectant mothers shouldn’t worry about what birthing facilities will be available to them,” said the premier in front of a gently-sloping grain field that will host the new care centre on Airdrie’s southwest edge.
